What’s the difference between HCS and TxHmL?
HCS offers a broader range of services, including residential (out-of-home) living options. TxHmL supports individuals who live with family or in their own home and offers a more limited set of services, without residential care.
Who is eligible?
Individuals with an intellectual disability or a related condition (such as autism, cerebral palsy, or spina bifida) that began before age 22. Eligibility also depends on income, assets, and Medicaid enrollment.
How long is the wait?
Wait times vary depending on when your loved one joined the interest list and current funding availability. We can help you understand where things stand.
Can we change providers later?
Yes. Families can change their HCS or TxHmL provider at any time, even if they move to a different part of Texas.
