How waiver services work, step by step

The path into HCS or TxHmL can feel like a maze. Here it is in plain language.

  1. Join the Interest List

    Apply through your local LIDDA (Local Intellectual and Developmental Disability Authority) to join the statewide waiting list for HCS or TxHmL. It’s free, and the earlier you join, the better.

  2. Wait for an Offer

    HHSC offers services in the order people joined the list; wait times vary. Keep your contact info current with your LIDDA so you never miss an offer.

  3. Get Assessed

    Once offered a slot, your loved one is evaluated to confirm eligibility and determine which services fit best.

  4. Choose Your Provider

    Families can choose True Care Community, and can switch providers later if needs change. We’re happy to meet with you before you decide.

  5. Build Your Care Plan

    We design a personalized plan around your loved one’s goals, routines, and preferences, and revisit it as life changes.
